Together we can change how news is made, and so much more. Spread the word!

Our aim is to enable reporting that is thorough, ethical, substantive, meaningful and fair. We believe every community is entitled to this kind of news, and that there are many great journalists out there to provide it.

As the newspaper industry has declined, there have been many efforts to save the sinking ship. The industry has shifted its focus from quality to quantity. Clicks have become more valuable than substance. Somewhere in the haze of advertorials, aggregated stories and press releases passed off as news, we’ve lost sight of the fact that our job is to inform.

We’re here for the readers who still hunger for news about their communities. We’re here to bring a journalist’s watchdog eye back to governments on every level, and we’re here to actively support journalism in communities that have been underserved in the past. Do you want to bring NewsFundr to your community? Let us know!

Michelle Carter is a veteran community journalist who has worked at a number of daily and weekly newspapers in the NorthEast. She earned a New York State Associated Press Managing Editors Association award in 2001 for her work on a series about investing and the business climate in New York City’s northern suburbs after the September 11 terrorist attacks. She was also a New England Press Association award nominee in 2002.

NewsFundr was born from her frustration over what local news has become. In a world where information and transparency are easier to convey than ever before, local news has become a whirlwind of useless content, advertorials and press releases passed off as news.

The technology exists for journalists to more easily report substantive news, and include the information to back up their stories. NewsFundr was created so passionate journalists can do just that, and earn a living while they do it.
